The Rest: Journal of Politics and Development welcomes original scholarly contributions in the fields of political science, international relations, development studies, political economy, security studies, regional studies, and related disciplines.
The journal publishes original research articles, review articles, and book reviews in English.
Submissions must not have been previously published or simultaneously submitted elsewhere.
1. Submission Process
All manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the journal’s online submission system.
Authors are required to upload:
- the anonymised manuscript,
- title page,
- abstract and keywords,
- and the Author Declaration and Publishing Agreement.
Submissions that do not comply with the journal’s guidelines may be returned to authors for technical correction prior to peer review.
2. Language and Style
Manuscripts must be written in clear and academically appropriate English.
Authors are responsible for language editing and proofreading prior to submission.
The journal reserves the right to request professional language editing where necessary.
3. Manuscript Length
Research articles should normally be between 5,000 and 10,000 words, including references, footnotes, tables, and appendices.
Book reviews and review articles may vary depending on their nature and scope.
4. Abstract and Keywords
All submissions must include:
- an abstract of approximately 200–250 words,
- and 4–6 keywords.
The abstract should clearly state:
- the research question,
- methodology,
- main findings,
- and scholarly contribution.
5. Formatting Requirements
Manuscripts should be prepared in:
- Times New Roman,
- 12-point font,
- 1.5 line spacing,
- justified alignment.
All pages must be numbered consecutively.
Tables, figures, maps, and illustrations should be clearly labelled and appropriately referenced within the text.
6. Citation Style
The journal uses the APA citation system (latest edition).
Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and consistency of all references and citations.
7. Anonymity for Peer Review
The journal uses a double-blind peer-review process.
Authors must remove all identifying information from the manuscript file, including:
- author names,
- institutional affiliations,
- acknowledgements,
- ORCID details,
- and self-identifying references where possible.
Author information should only appear on the separate title page.
8. Plagiarism and Similarity Check
All submissions are screened for plagiarism and textual similarity using plagiarism detection software such as iThenticate and/or Turnitin prior to peer review.
Similarity reports are evaluated qualitatively by the editorial team. The journal does not rely solely on numerical similarity percentages.
Plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated data, falsified information, and unethical academic conduct are strictly prohibited.
9. Publication Ethics
The journal follows internationally recognised publication ethics principles and adheres to the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Authors are expected to comply fully with publication ethics standards.

Authors who publish in The Rest: Journal of Politics and Development retain the copyright of their work.

11. Open Access Policy
The journal operates under a full open-access model.
No submission fees, article processing charges (APCs), publication fees, or access fees are charged to authors or readers.
12. Peer Review Process
All submissions are evaluated through a double-blind peer review process involving at least two independent reviewers.
